Until the 1980s, the Lower Promenade was dominated by Menden's freight yard and large industrial companies and was not actually accessible throughout. It was only in the first decade of the two thousand meter peaks that it became fully accessible. Various retailers have settled on one side, while the Hönne side has been provided with a beautiful path that was originally also permitted for cyclists.
