The water tower was built in 1901 to a design by architect F.A. de Jongh for the first water supply network in the Krimpenerwaard. The 50 meter high tower has an iron flat bottom water reservoir with a volume of 150 m³. A 6 m high iron standpipe has been incorporated into the spire, which could be used to put extra pressure on the system in the event of an emergency.Until 1982, the water tower served to put pressure on the Schoonhoven water supply network. After a period of vacancy and decay, the monument was bought in 1992 for one guilder. The water tower now houses a silver gallery.

One of the most beautiful water towers we have seen so far. Maybe worth taking a look in Zwijndrecht and Nijkerk at the water towers of the same designer and builder
