Tips

  • The Christ Church is the evangelical church in Stadeln.
Until the turn of the 20th century, Stadeln was an almost purely Protestant community. The sharp increase in the population after the First World War prompted the desire to have their own church, as there was only once a month the opportunity to take part in a service in Stadeln, which took place in the school building, which later became the town hall. On September 19, 1915, an "Evangelical Association Stadeln" was founded. The number of members grew steadily and by 1923 a capital of 20,000 marks had been accumulated. As can be read in a log book from 1924, however, everything saved had become worthless due to inflation and one had to start all over again.
Christ chapel. After the Stadeln mayor and farmer Georg Andreas Ulrich had donated a building site for a church and many other donations were recorded, including a large subsidy from the overall church administration of Fürth, the Christ Chapel was built in 1927 and inaugurated on October 30, 1927. The small wooden chapel was created from a wooden barracks from the Atzenhof air base, a golden ball and a gilded cross adorned the top of the tower and two bells were also brought down. Contemporary witnesses report that there was a tiled stove in the middle of the church, with which the room could be heated. This chapel of Christ was taken care of by the pastors from St. Michael, because the mother church was still there. Despite several air raids, most of which were aimed at the nearby dynamite factory, the church was spared major damage during World War II. In 1948 the church choir Christusgemeinde Stadeln was founded under its first conductor Kurt Engel. The choir's first performance was at the Christmas Eve service on December 24, 1948. In 1952, a subsidiary of St. Michael was formed in the district of Stadeln, without Mannhof, and on April 1, 1953, a prominent vicarage was established that belonged to the deanery of Fürth. This completed the separation from the mother church of St. Michael in Fürth. In the years 1954 to 1955 the rectory with a parish hall and its own diaconal station was built. The parsonage was ready for occupation on July 29, 1955.
But the Christ Chapel became too small over time, especially after the influx of bombed out, refugees and expellees after the Second World War to Stadeln. So the desire to build their own large Christ Church out of stone and to become their own independent congregation very quickly arose.
The last service in the Notkirche took place on September 29, 1957 and demolition work began a little later. On Sunday, November 24, 1957, the foundation stone for the new Christ Church could be laid.
The first pastor, Theodor Vogel, was the driving force behind the "Christus Church Project". At the same time, a community hall was built, which connected the vicarage with the new church. The topping-out ceremony for the church was on February 25, 1958. On May 28, 1958, under the supervision of Pastor Vogel, the three new bells were cast at the Rincker company in Sinn in Dillkreis, Hesse. On June 12, 1958, the new bells were solemnly brought in.
