    Hiking

Surrounded by a spacious park and a beautiful avenue, the centuries-old Huize Almelo castle is located on the east side of the city of Almelo, inhabited by the Vanrechteren Limpurg family. The current house was built in 1662 to replace the old medieval castle that had suffered extensive damage during the Eighty Years' War. From this old castle and its later successor, the lordship of Almelo and Vriezenveen was governed by the lords of Almelo for centuries.
