Burial Mounds near Gomaringen-Stockach
A group of Celtic burial mounds from the Iron Age Hallstatt period (8th-7th centuries BC) is located near Gomaringen-Stockach. One of the mounds was discovered during road construction in 1938 and investigated by Prof. Dr. Gustav Riek. The group now consists of eight mounds of varying sizes. Five more have been destroyed in recent decades.
The stele is a cast. The original is in the Württemberg State Museum in Stuttgart. The face is damaged, but the eyes, nose, and mouth are still recognizable; the chest is decorated with a triangular line, perhaps indicating a garment.
