Konrad Adenauer, honored here by the naming of the promenade along the Rhine, was not only the mayor of Cologne (before the Nazi era), but also the first chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany after World War II and played a key role in making Bonn the federal capital. Limerick poet Dieter Höss created a small literary monument to him:
