"... Above the city of Staufen on the so-called“ Waldbruderköpfle ”of the“ Dürren Bucks ”stands the St. Johannes chapel with the brother house. A Way of the Cross with a total of fourteen stations leads up to the chapel.

The history of the Sankt Johanneskapelle known to us begins with the destruction of the hermitage of the hermit Johannes Willi near the Sankt Gotthardkapelle in 1678. The city of Staufen then provided Willi with a place in the forest above the city on the "Dürren Buck" in 1684, to build a new hermitage. In 1685 (as evidenced by the year on the arch above the entrance door), with the active help of the citizens of Staufen, he built the chapel, which was consecrated to his patron saint, St. John the Baptist. Since then this place has also been called St. Johannesberg or Waldbruderköpfle, popularly also Josefle because a service was celebrated there on March 19th, St. Joseph's Day. ... "
