The Reuthsee, idyllically located near Sulzdorf on the Lederhecke in an extensive forest area, is considered one of the largest natural landscape lakes in the Lower Franconia administrative region. What does the name Reuthsee mean? Large-scale clearing of the forests began in the 8th and 9th centuries AD. This was done either by reuten (that is, felling the trees and removing the rootstocks), by scharring (i.e., peeling off the bark to kill the trees) or by scorching (i.e., burning down the undergrowth). The space gained in this way was called the Reute or the Reuth. The name Reuthsee is probably derived from this. Source: sulzdorf.rhoen-saale.net/Home?page=16994&&detailID=15754
