In 1470, a church of St. Leonhard in Sulzdorf an der Lederhecke was mentioned. When the village was taken over by the Truchseß von Wetzhausen family in 1602, the village was almost entirely Protestant. The oldest part of the current church is the late medieval lower floors of the church tower, a choir tower. The nave and the upper floors of the church tower were built in the 18th century.

Sulzdorf an der Lederhecke (officially Sulzdorf a.d.Lederhecke) is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld. The municipality is a member of the Bad Königshofen im Grabfeld administrative community. The name refers to a wooded strip several kilometers long, which was called Lederhecke and which represented the border with the Saxon and later Thuringian areas. There are several theories about the meaning of "Lederhecke", including "muddy water" or "pasture forest".
