The picturesque harbor of Cancale, La Houle, extends over the entire length of the lower city and has no harbor basin. The boats of the fishermen and the oyster breeders lie directly on the beach, where they fall dry at low tide. Along the waterfront are numerous good hotels and restaurants, and stalls offer fresh fish and especially fresh shellfish and crustaceans. A particularly beautiful view of the harbor and the city is offered by the Cale de l'Épi.

The Cale de l'Épi is a historic lock in the port of La Houle, built in 1838 and later expanded. With its 50-meter-long quay and its characteristic 19 arches, it was used for fishing and oyster farming. Today, it offers a beautiful view of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.
