The fortress occupies the highest point in the town and is located about 200 meters south of the Karaman-Silifke thoroughfare D-715. It consists of two courtyards. The surrounding walls, built in part from Roman spolia blocks, follow the terrain. They are interrupted at irregular intervals by bastions, mostly rectangular, but also hexagonal or circular. The north-west side of the enclosure runs along a cliff to the valley of the Mut Çayı River. Two gates lead to the larger, lower-lying east courtyard, which was probably intended as a residential area, and one to the west courtyard. At the highest point there is a free-standing, three-storey keep built by the Karamanids. One of the eastern gates bears a Karamanid architectural inscription. The two gates of the east courtyard were expanded as portals in Ottoman times. The wall separating the two courtyards has largely been destroyed today, the outer walls and the tower have been partially restored.
