Brande station was opened along with the Give-Herning section on 1 January 1914. On October 1, 1914, the state took over the private railway Vejle-Give. This completed the Vejle-Holstebro line, since the Herning-Holstebro section had already been inaugurated on October 11, 1904.

At the same time, work was being done on the other Jutland diagonal line: the Langå Bramming line. The railway (Laurbjerg-Silkeborg) was inaugurated on November 12, 1908, and from the south the section from Bramming to Brande was inaugurated on December 1, 1917.

The most difficult route, Brande-Funder, was inaugurated on October 1, 1920.

Brande was to have a large train station as the crossing point for the two diagonal lanes.

The diagonal route Langå-Bramming was discontinued on May 23, 1971, but there was still goods traffic Brande-Hjøllund until 1989. In addition to the Herning line, the Funderbanen line can still be seen, which branched off 3 km north of the station for the first time.

Today, the Vejle - Brande - Herning section is operated on an hourly basis.
