On the west side of the city fortifications, the Treptower Tor in Neubrandenburg speaks of the former pride and wealth of the citizens. This wide, late Gothic gate (around 1400) with its four stepped gables and rich aperture structure is the tallest and most representative of all city gates. The main gate reaches a height of almost 32 m.

The Treptower Tor is the highest and at the same time the most representative of the four city gates. It most obviously documents the prosperity of medieval Neubrandenburg and the pride of its citizens.

The main gate on the city side, built around 1400, is almost 32 meters high and towers almost twice as high as the outer gate on the field side. This offered the opportunity to observe and defend the area far beyond the front gate.
As early as 1873, the Treptower Tor was expanded into a municipal museum, the oldest civic museum in Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Today the main gate houses the exhibitions on prehistory and early history of the Neubrandenburg Regional Museum.
The kennel is 34 by 10 meters smaller than the kennels of the other gates. A half-timbered house for the gatekeepers and the tax collector was built into the southern Zwinger wall in the 18th century.
In 1856 the city's first telegraph office was built next to it. The upstream Vierrademühle, first mentioned in 1271, was connected to the Treptow gate system by walls and other bulwarks.
