The Stargarder Tor is the southern entrance to the city of Neubrandenburg. It was built in the middle of the 14th century and is the second oldest of the four city gates, the three-storey main gate is 24 m high. The swampy area in front of the gate provided effective natural protection so that it did not have to be secured three times.

The Stargarder Tor forms the southern entrance to the city. In the past it was also called Wendish Gate or Wanzkaer Tor. The former name obviously reminds us that there were remnants of the Slavic population south of Neubrandenburg for a long time, who were also referred to as Wends. The second name is associated with the Wanzka Cistercian nunnery, which existed south of the city since the 1380s and with which there were always close relationships.

The construction time of the Stargard Gate was determined with the help of dendrochronological analysis of the wood used in the roof. The wood for the roof structure was felled in the winter of 1310/11. This is the second oldest gate in the city.

Since the renovation in 1999, the gate is walkable and the medieval roof truss to visit.
