Along the banks of the authentic village of Sint-Amands is one of the most beautiful bends of the Scheldt, a picturesque landscape made famous by the successful television series 'Stille Waters'. This series refers to the special moment when the flow of the river, between ebb and flow, seems to stand still for a moment. A striking sight along these banks is the mausoleum of the village poet Emile Verhaeren, a dignified place with a beautiful view of the meandering Scheldt.

Interestingly, here you can also enjoy a unique experience called 'bank hopping'. The triangular ferry between Mariekerke, Moerzeke and Sint-Amands allows you to travel to the other side of the river in no time, giving you the opportunity to explore various scenic locations along the Scheldt.

Sint Amands is an old village that we know for sure already existed in the ninth century. However, no buildings or other evidence of this period have survived. The oldest building in the village is the Sint-Amanduskerk from the seventeenth century. There are also a few houses from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Partly because of this you can get a good idea of what the village must have looked like in the past. The most beautiful houses in the village can be found in the Kerkstraat.
