Gliders have been launched here for many years with a winch start (not behind another plane with a cable, but with a winch motor and a cable, a bit like a kite) as explained on the sign with the photos ( and you can see for yourself on days when flights take place). Also check out the retired military aircraft and its history at the entrance. You can see the planes taking off along the side of the site during a longer walk in the sand (only clearly visible from the side where you have the water features and playground). If you have kids who want to go to the playground, you can also watch from the fence. Our kids used to love doing it themselves; During every playground visit, there was a short walk to the wire.
Pro tip 1: on the playground grounds there is a hill with a bench on the fence, especially for watching.
Pro tip 2: near the children's walk in the sand there are some information boards about thermals, the winch start and what exactly ensures that an aircraft can ascend and descend - air.
