The sculpture is an image of the horror and inhumanity of war in the form of a brutal, angular and abstract warrior. He stands on a pyramid with recognizable human heads at the top and shelled skulls at the bottom. It shows us that in death we are all equal.
Sculptor Niels Hansen Jacobsen (1861-1941) modeled "Militarism" in Paris in 1898-99. On the 25th anniversary of his death in 1966, the sculpture was cast in bronze and placed in Vejen. In 1981 it got its present location at the town hall square in Vejen.
