According to information board of the Haster round:
"The Mittelland Canal (Ems-Weser-Elbe Canal) is built in the Haste area from 1909 to 1912.
The already since 1847 existing railway line Hannover-Minden must be raised by a dam on the bridge bridge height. The earth masses arising from the canal construction are not sufficient for this. Therefore, a two-hectare area will be 3.50 meters deep and 70,000 m3 of filler will be recovered. The result is the "Haster Pond". Since it is only fed by groundwater and rainfall, its water level varies between 1.20m and 2.00m. In the summer months of June and July, the surface of the water is covered with bright lily pads.
The waters are very popular with fishing enthusiasts for its fish stock (pike, carp and white fish).
In 1914, the pond is sold to the merchant F.W. Heidorn from Hanover leased. He is until his death (1944) main tenant of the fishpond, which is popularly called "Heidornsee". "
