Here was built from 1698 to 1772 on the order of the Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden "Türkenlouis" founded glassworks Mittelberg. The first glassmakers came from St. Blasien. The products were sold by so-called "glass carrier companies" mainly in Baden, Alsace and in the Palatinate. Anton Pindeschwender, Oberschultheiss in Gaggenau from 1758 to 1803, relocated the business to Gaggenau in 1772.
