Retranchement is located on the border between the Netherlands and Belgium.
The Triplets of Retranchement are three boundary posts with the same number: 364. The middle of the three indicates the boundary. The village is located on the Zwin and at the time the poles were placed, water still flowed through it. That is why it was difficult to determine where exactly the border lay. Three poles were placed.
