Hattingen is a real Ruhrpott pearl. In the past, everything in the small Hanseatic city was dominated by coal. The times are over, even if the Henrichshütte, which today serves as a museum, testifies to the glorious coal times.

You can not miss the old town in Hattingen. From the main street, it is best to look for the steel city gate, from where you can directly enter the 750-year-old labyrinth of picturesque half-timbered houses. If you have time, you can find one attraction after another here. In good weather, there are beer gardens and cafes in the many winding alleyways, here you can peacefully enjoy a coffee or a breakfast in a beautiful ambience.

Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7:30 am to 1 pm market is in the town hall square, which is well worth a visit.

Hattingens old town is quite large and one of the most beautiful in the whole Ruhr area. A great starting point for a nice tour of the pot. Hattingen is easily accessible from Bochum. From the main station the S-Bahn line 308 goes directly to Hattingen Mitte.

If you love old towns with half-timbered houses as much as I do, then you will surely like the old town of Hattingen. There are almost 150 medieval buildings to admire in Hattingen. I will show you which of the Hattingen sights you should definitely see and explain what Frau Holle has to do with the former cloth-making town. You can also find out why the steeple is crooked, where the iron house got its name from and what the saying “Let's have a drink to” is all about:

Half-timbered idyll and nice little town with nice shops and restaurants. Very atmospheric at Christmas too.
