The current wooden church, which stands on a hill east of the town centre, replaced a smaller wooden church from the 1580s. It was built in the summer of 1859 by the parishioners themselves under the direction of master builder Johan Nordell, based on a drawing by Abraham Rafael Ulric Pettersson (1824-1866). Work stopped in the winter and continued the following year. The new church was completed in June 1860. The church is clad on the outside with horizontal, white-painted wooden panels. The roof of the church has a wooden barrel vault. The pulpit dates from the year the church was built, 1859. The altarpiece was painted by Karl Tirén in 1926. It shows "Jesus at the well of Sykar". Two bells hang in the church tower, a small bell from 1778 and the large bell from 1859.
