The four kilometer long Dörenther cliffs in the Teutoburg Forest in Ibbenbüren are powerful, mystical and impressive. If you hike here, you also take a walk on the beach. This may sound a bit surprising at first, but with a little digression into the history of the earth, the veil lifts: The beach is quite old and the sand has now turned to stone. Tectonic forces brought the sandstone layers back to the surface and have shaped the landscape with the bizarre chain of rocks ever since. "Outstanding" individual rocks are - in the truest sense of the word - the Dreikaiserstuhl in the eastern part and the Crouching Woman, around which a tragic legend is entwined, in the western part of the cliffs.
