The Pontifical Sanctuary of San Martino di Tours is the mother church of the city of Martina Franca, in the province of Taranto.
The basilica, named after Martin of Tours, was built from 1747 to 1785 on a previous Romanesque church.
On April 22, 1998, Pope John Paul II. the dignity of a small papal basilica.
Since Friday September 27, 2002, UNESCO has declared it a "Heraldic Monument of a Culture of Peace".

Saint Martin / "SAN MARTINO", to whom this church in Martina Franca is dedicated, is - along with Saint Nicholas - probably one of the most popular saints of all. The memorial day of the former officer in the Roman army is November 11th. On the night after the famous “parting of the coat,” when he leaves half of his army cloak to a freezing beggar, Jesus Christ appears to him in a dream. He then converted to Christianity and was later elected bishop of Tours (France) - initially against his will.
