As a battery tower, the thick tower flanks the south-west corner of the outer wall. Built in 1712, it towers protectively over the city to this day. In the tower, a staircase leads to deep vaults where the powder magazines were stored. The thick tower was supposed to provide the Nikolausturm with the necessary protection during the 7-year war. Even today, visible impacts on the tower are reminiscent of the time of the 7-year war.
