The Middle Aurach, sometimes only called Aurach, is a 39 km long left tributary of the Regnitz in Middle Franconia.
The name Aurach means something like "brook, on which aurochs graze" (from ahd. Ūr 'aurochs' and aha, 'flowing water'). [3]To distinguish it from other rivers called Aurach, in particular another Aurach, which also flows further down from the left into the Regnitz, and a third Aurach, which flows into the Regnitz main overflow Rednitz from the left, the second inflow of this name discussed here becomes the main stream the Regnitz mostly referred to as the Middle Aurach. The two source streams of the Aurach originate on the Frankenhöhe in the southern Hohenecker Forest, just in the area of Markt Ipsheim in the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district. The higher of the two origins is about 433 m above sea level. NHN. After less than a kilometer of an eastern run, the two streams unite in the forest shortly after the municipal boundary to Markt Erlbach, which the Middle Aurach soon leaves near the parish village of Linden in Erlbach. It now swings under the town of Linden on the right ridge of the river to a long-standing, on a larger scale, approximately east-northeast flow direction. Before the first small village Klausaurach on the bank, she picks up the half-long Leitenbach from the forest of her origins, near the mouth of which an Aurach spring is shown on maps; Here, some spring versions collect drinking water from the Leitenbach basin.More information: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mittlere_Aurach
