The Cascine di Tavola are a splendid park which, with its approximately 300 hectares, extends in the southern area of the city, taking its name from the district of the same name in which it is located.
Built in the fifteenth century at the behest of Lorenzo di Piero de' Medici known as the Magnificent, on the basis of a project that involved the purchase and transformation of the villa of Poggio a Caiano and the construction of a vast agricultural estate reclaimed from the marshes through a dense network of channels. At the time the main activity was cattle breeding and the production of cheeses was able to satisfy the demand of all of Florence.
Currently, a large part of the area is a magnificent park for public use, with large meadows and wooded areas.
