Lake Paprocańskie (also Paprocany Lake, German: Paprozaner See) - a water reservoir located in the southwestern part of Tychy. It is an artificial reservoir created for the needs of Huta Paprocka in 1796. In the years 1986–1992, reclamation works were carried out in the reservoir, consisting of completely draining the reservoir, removing silt and lowering the bottom soil by 0.5 m on an area of 110 ha. Currently, it plays a recreational and retention role, providing flood protection for the south-eastern districts of the city.
The lake area is 132 ha, the average depth ranges from 150 to 190 cm. The lake is surrounded by forests - the GOP forest protection belt. The waters of Lake Paprocańskie are fed by Stara Gostynka and small forest streams flowing from the south. The catchment area feeding the lake is 20.4 km². The relief of the area near the shores is not very varied. In the backwater part, marshy areas have developed, constituting a refuge for waterfowl. The lake serves as a recreational reservoir of class I purity. Its dam protects the Gostynka valley from flooding, and the water released from the lake serves to reduce the level of river pollution. The lake's capacity is 1.65 million m³, including the total flood reserve of 2.45 million m³. The water table is at an elevation of 242.0 m, its depth does not exceed 2.50 m, only in the old Gostynka riverbed you can find deeper water, reaching approximately 3.5 m. The discharge of water from the reservoir, through the drainage channel, varies between 0.12–8.50 m³/s.
The length of Lake Paprocańskie is approx. 2 km, while the width at its widest point is approx. 0.5 km.
