Housing estate B with an area of 64 ha was designed for approximately 14,500 residents. It is situated on the southern side of the Tyskie Stream, opposite Stare Tychy. The central point of the estate was Bolesław Bierut Square (currently Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński Square) with characteristic skylights crowning the roofs of tenement houses in its southern frontage. A rich service program has been concentrated on the ground floors of the buildings around the square, incl. Andromeda cinema. According to the designers' intention, Baczyński Square, along with the nearby Old Town Square, was to serve as a substitute city center for the residents of the housing estates built up to that time.
