Basalt was mined in the Dietesheim quarries until 1982. Today there is a 61-hectare recreational area with lakes, forests and rock formations that are not only very photogenic, but also unique for the Rhine-Main region. 22 hectares consists of the lakes, through which the groundwater broke to the surface after the quarries were closed, and through which the impressive landscape could develop. Over 120,000 trees and 7,000 shrubs have been planted here. Today it grows everywhere, the trees hang so overgrown over the cliffs that you only have a clear view of the lake landscape from some corners. Rare plants and animals have also settled here. The entire area around the Dietesheimer Seen includes the following lakes:
