A memorial for some Polish pilots who were killed in a plane crash in a snow storm during World War II. There was one survivor who made it down to safety with a broken ankle. He is said to have followed foxes paw prints to reach the village at the foot of the fells. If you want to know more about this incident, see buckdenpike.co.uk.
