Barsbeker See Nature Reserve

There are many paths to the Barsbeker See and the surrounding area, great hiking area so beautifully located right behind the beach.

The nature reserve Barsbeker See and the surrounding area is easily accessible by bike from Barsbek, Wendtorf or from the Baltic Coast Cycle Path on the dyke. Of the total of 146 hectares, the lake still covers about 40 hectares. The lake is the hunting ground of the white-tailed eagle pair, which has its eyrie on a poplar tree on the road to Heidkate. Two pairs of marsh harriers, bitterns and egrets also live here, for example. Dragonflies such as the blue-green mermaid or the blood-red darter dragonfly are among the residents, as are moor frogs and common toads, as well as the butterfly species brown forest bird.
