Volzemer Steine Dobel
From a geological point of view, the Dobler Höhenridge belongs to the "Grinde", as the often unwooded, partly moorland red sandstone ridges are popularly called. The upper source horizon of the Middle Buntsandstein consists of mostly coarse-grained sandstones in which larger boulders are embedded. Exposed by erosion, this formation in particular tends to break up into conspicuous blocks, which then present themselves as a more or less large sea of rocks in the landscape.
Located on the "Dreimarkstein-Dobel" section of the well-known Westweg Pforzheim - Basel, the sea of rocks with the "champagne stones" invites hikers to marvel. The boulders used to be called "crystal sandstones" because they glittered so brightly. An old geological map by Dobel gave them the proud name "champagne stones". For a while, the stones served as a quarry for the Dobler population, and because of their high level of resistance, they were often used to make millstones.
The Volzemer Stones can be reached via the Engel-Weg-Dobel, the Forest History Adventure Trail, Annis-Adventure Trail Dobel and the Westweg.

A wonderful natural highlight right on the bike path. The information board explains to you briefly and comprehensibly what the beautiful rock formations are all about. Blanks for fountain troughs and millstones were still being made here until 1949. If you pay attention, you can still find work pieces that have already been started.
