The beeches, oaks, and plane trees fell victim to the controversial Stuttgart 21 train station project eight years ago. Some of them were made available to artists. One of them was Michael Lange. Nevertheless, the artist emphasizes that he would not have been able to complete his work without the companies that helped. This includes the railway. Therefore, Michael Lange does not want his work to be understood as a criticism of Stuttgart 21, let alone as a memorial. He simply calls it "Trees tell stories." "They are meant to remind us of transience. After all, many trees are much older than most people." The black tint of the trunks, created by fire, not paint, is meant to emphasize the abstract form. Other colors, the artist believes, "distract from the essentials." What that is is up to the viewer.

- This artwork was created from trees felled in the castle park for the S 21 road.
- It was erected in November 2019.
- The former mayor of Leonberg, Bernhard Schuler, supported the artist and agreed with him that it would remain there for 10 years.
