Jagiellonian University [a], abbreviation of Jagiellonian University - Polish public university in Krakow, the oldest Polish university, one of the oldest universities in the world.
The university (studium general) was founded in 1364 in Kazimierz [6] from the foundation of Casimir III the Great, and initially consisted of three faculties: liberal arts, medicine and law.
It was the second university established in Central Europe after the University of Prague established in 1348. It was reactivated around 1390 by Jadwiga Andegaweńska. Official, renovated in 1400 in Krakow by Władysław II Jagiełło from the foundation of Jadwiga Andegaweńska, extended to the theological department, created thanks to the efforts of Jadwiga in 1397. It was only in 1817 that it was given the name "Jagielloński" to emphasize the relationship between the university and the Jagiellonian dynasty.
Collegium Novum - the historic main building of the Jagiellonian University, put into use in 1887, located at 24 Gołębia Street near Planty Park.
