The museum in the Steintor has a history of over 90 years. It is the oldest museum between Greifswald and Stettin. It is located in a 32-meter-high brick Gothic city gate, the only remaining gate in the city fortifications of Anklams. It is the highest city gate in Pomerania.

Already since 1927, the city has a museum of local history, which is also the oldest museum between Greifswald and Szczecin. It is located in a 32 m high city gate of the brick Gothic (stone gate), the only preserved gate of the city fort Anklams. It is the highest city gate in Pomerania and is one of the most beautiful gates in Northern Germany.
