The Westhovener Aue was a military landing training area and a water training area. The training areas included bridge systems, various concrete works, sections of trench for the construction of temporary bridges and an obstacle course, equipment halls for inflatable boats and pontoon equipment B, as well as a former tourist restaurant that served as an officers' home. A little later the small port was completed.
After the city bought the site in 2002, the former training ground was dismantled from 2004 onwards.
The towpath leads through the Westhover Aue and the green belt circular route G1.
