"On June 19, 2020, the renowned sculptor Tony Cragg unveiled his sculpture" Wild Relatives, 2013 "in the Wassenberg garden axis. Born in Liverpool, he is considered one of the world's most influential artists Düsseldorf Art Academy, Cragg is a Turner Prize winner and Commander of the British Empire, and he built the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park in his adopted home of Wuppertal.The artist loaned the imposing sculpture “Wild Relatives, 2013”, which previously stood in Florence, to the city of Wassenberg for two years.The non-representational sculpture is a 2.40 meter high work made of bronze. The viewer discovers twists, turns and indentations on the sculpture, a dynamic interplay of material, color and shape. You get the feeling that the artist gave the movement a shape. So there is no ideal perspective either, the viewer is encouraged to constantly move around the work in order to always take on new perspectives. Every new point of view gives new views. This three-dimensional view allows numerous interpretations, and profiles of human heads or faces are often discovered. This all-round view makes viewing the work an exciting and active process. And although the sculpture was made of heavy bronze, the voluminous mass appears light and mobile thanks to the many openings and depressions. The location in the city park in front of the natural backdrop with green areas, beds and trees makes the sculpture appear different depending on the time of day and season. The sculptor himself says of his work that it has acquired its own vitality and allows the viewer to new thoughts and new emotions. "
