From 1904 it was planned to build a colliery at this location, but it was not until 1930 that the first coal could be mined. Over the years, the colliery and the associated power plant [komoot.de/highlight/223404] have been continuously expanded. The colliery even crossed under the Rhine and took over several shafts from other collieries on the left bank of the Rhine. In 2008 coal production was stopped.

The headframe above Shaft 1 (Franz-Lenze-Shaft), which was built in 1938/39, has been preserved as a monument. The remaining mine facilities were demolished.
