Castiglione della Pescaia, a town of Etruscan origin set on a hill overlooking the sea, intertwines its history with the events of the Etruscans and the Romans. These have left indelible traces of urban wonders: aqueducts, viaducts and paved streets. The medieval heart of the town is dominated by an imposing castle, built around a tower built by the Pisans in the 10th century. Surrounded by walls that embrace the medieval village, made up of ancient houses and towers, the castle stands as testimony to bygone eras. These walls, erected in the 10th century, are composed of the remains of two distinct fortification systems. The initial ring dates back to the 10th-13th century, when Pisa protected the town, while the second wall was built in the 15th century to defend the settlement on the hill. In addition to the castle and the medieval village, the landscape of Castiglione della Pescaia is enriched by the presence of the Diaccia Botrona nature reserve, recognized internationally for its rare ecosystem. In 1404, Castiglione della Pescaia came under the protection of Florence, with the Medici undertaking extensive land reclamation efforts to repopulate the area. However, the most significant efforts were made in the decade between 1828 and 1838 under Leopold II, known as Canapone. Today, Castiglione della Pescaia is a renowned seaside destination, famous for its pristine beaches and crystal clear waters. The country offers countless opportunities for those passionate about nature, history and culture, making it an ideal retreat for holidaymakers.

Castiglione della Pescaia is a lovely Tuscan town on the Maremma.
Here it is steep stairs and alleys up and down. There are always great views of the coast.
Really a very nice place to walk and stroll ...
At local is also no shortage!
