The Preußeneck Eckwarderhörne lighthouse is located on the tip of the Butjadingen peninsula. The 45-meter-high lighthouse, decommissioned in 2012, is a listed building because of its historical significance and its significance for local and technological history.
From two viewing platforms at heights of 18.40 and 34.50 meters, you can see the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park and the opposite port and naval city of Wilhelmshaven with its Jade-Weser-Port.

We walked to the "Preusseneck" site in Eckwarderhörne – the northeastern tip of the Jade Bay – and admired the highlight, the Preusseneck top light, at low tide. It is a relic that was commissioned in 1962 as the top light of the Eckwarden leading light line and was decommissioned 50 years later. Due to the construction of the Jade-Weser-Port, the fairway and with it the leading light line had to be diverted westward. The Jappensand leading light line was built as a replacement. The decommissioned Preusseneck top light was scheduled for demolition. The Eckwarderhörne Lighthouse Citizens' Initiative, despite resistance, secured the preservation of the lighthouse, which was listed as a historical monument in 2011, and subsequently restored it with the establishment of a foundation for approximately €400,000.
++The striking top light has been open to visitors since 2017. Guided tours Saturdays and Sundays in summer.
++ Includes a museum with illuminated displays of the regional lighthouse lines and towers, as well as informative multimedia information on geology and coastal protection.
++ The 34-meter-high lighthouse, in particular, allows you to see the nearby seal colonies in the stunning Wadden Sea landscape at low tide. As the highest point in Butjadingen, you have excellent all-round visibility in clear weather. This trip is highly recommended with children.

There is a generously glazed restaurant in which there is a wonderful view of the Jade Bay even in cool weather.
