Information board 12 on the path of remembrance reminds us of the terrible aftermath of the Second World War. To this day, unexploded bombs and grenades can still be found during excavation work, which can lead to serious accidents. A tragic accident happened on July 19, 1972, when three children from the village of Nidrum most likely spotted a hand grenade, which eventually detonated. Eleven-year-old Dieter Schleiss lost his life in the explosion. Two other boys, aged nine and eleven, were injured.

In the Nidrum cemetery, 28 gravestones commemorate the Russian prisoners who lost their lives in the Elsenborn camp or in the Bosfagne prison camp near Sourbrodt. Source: information board on site
