The first Hessian railway ran through the middle of Grebenstein's lower town from 1848 to 1875. Technical development progressed rapidly during this time, and with it the speed of the trains. After a serious train accident on the very tight curve, the railway was relocated to the current route outside the city walls in 1875. The partially preserved railway embankment, two viaducts and 8 smaller bridges make the history of the railway come alive on the approximately 5-kilometer-long circular route. Information boards provide further information on the history, background and much more along the way. Grebenstein's old town with lots of half-timbered houses, several towers of the former city fortifications as well as the Ackerbürgermuseum and the traditional Hagenmühle with farm shop and café invite you to take a long stop.
A detour to the Grebenstein castle ruins via the "Denklehrpfad" eco path is also worthwhile. From the platform you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view. The hiking trail “Friedrich Wilhelms Nordbahn” can be started as a circular route at the parking lot by the pond
