As the second largest pumping station in the area of the Deich- und Hauptsielverband Südwesthörn-Bongsiel, this structure has been in existence since 1977. It drains the diked marshland via drainage ditches, so-called Sielzüge, to enable life and agriculture.

A first sluice (a sluice-like construction) was built at this point as early as 1758, but this was no longer sufficient over the centuries. In 1928 the Hemenswarl pumping station was built approx. 1 km south, of which only the lock keeper's house is evidence today.

The surface water to be discharged inland via the sewer is first collected in what is known as the receiving water. A computer system removes coarse dirt from the water. Then up to four axial pumps (propellers) transport the water into the sea with a maximum total flow rate of 12m³ / s, regardless of the tide. The average electricity and pumping costs of the pumping operation amount to around 50,000 euros per year.

Unfortunately, the "road" there is in need of some renovation.
