This section is typically un-rideable but bike can be pushed. Concrete barriers at the Mamaku end are narrow and panniers will not fit. Bikes could be lifted over.

Road cycling

We went there in Jan 23 and most of this 500m section was rideable on our touring bikes (38mm tires). After crossing the initial barrier you can just follow the hiking trail which will take you to the other side.
About halfway through there's a fallen tree across the path but we were able to push/pull our bicycles through without having to take the luggage off.
Our front panniers even fit through the concrete barriers at the Mamaku end - although it was a matter of millimeters.
