Quarry at a lofty height: The glass head is an elevation with a height of 686.8 m above sea level. NHN [above Glashütten and is part of the Taunushauptkamm. The mountain gets its name from the earlier glass production in forest glassworks on its slopes.

On the north-east flank of the glass head there was a quarry in which brown iron ore was extracted. The dismantling was finished at the end of the 19th century. In 2020, Hessen-Forst cleared the area in front of the quarry from trees and leveled the area. A natural forest meadow and a valuable biotope in the stone wall are to be created here.
