Today's St. Mary's Church of Ireland is situated within the medieval city walls on a hilltop. There was a church on this site before the Reformation. The church was described in 1827 as "a pretty little building with a square embattled tower" next to the bell tower of an earlier church.

Like many old buildings in Ireland, this church is also very well preserved.
