The manor was founded in the 16th century and later became the property of Prince Frederik of Oranje-Nassau (1797-1881). The country house is today the town hall of Wassenaar. There is also a small fire museum in the building, which is open on weekends.

The park is beautiful and you can always discover new things while walking. The country house / town hall is currently (summer 2019) in retreading and construction site - so not so spectacular.

Between 1857 and 1859, Princess Louise, daughter of the Prussian king, and Prince Frederik had De Paauw converted into a Prussian summer palace by their Berlin architect Wentzel. Located in a huge landscape park, the area is still beautiful today, or again after renovation, and as the provincial town hall is also used by many couples as a wonderful wedding location.
