Tomelloso has been a population that has always been distinguished by a great fondness for the Festival of the bulls. Before October 4, 1859, the day of the Fair in which the old bullring was inaugurated, bullfights were held in the streets of the town, raising platforms for it.
The land where the old square was built, which is the same where the current one is located, was ceded for this purpose by the brothers Tiburcio and Leoncio Peinado, predecessors of the current manufacturers of the famous cognac and founders of said industry.
