The round building above Algesdorf ...
... is an old VOR on the "Altebusch".
The building served as a special radio beacon for aviation until the early 1960s. Especially because the emitted radio signal contained directional information with which a corresponding receiver in the aircraft could determine not only the radio beacon itself, but also its own direction to the radio beacon. The German term for this is "VHF rotary radio beacon", known in pilot circles as "VOR" (VHF Omnidirectional Radio Range). Our VOR was called "VOR-ROD". To function as "VOR", an antenna similar to a large round chimney was attached to the rotunda. There were other smaller antennas around the edge of the roof.
